The current media climate has top managers at newspapers and media companies worldwide asking questions – of themselves, their staffs and their technology providers. How do we serve the consumer demand for news through the channels most convenient to our customers? How do we become more efficient without sacrificing the quality of our products?

WELTN24, part of the Axel Springer media group, asked those questions many years ago. And starting in 2002, this top-national brand in the German market set out to redefine itself internally and in relation to the market. The goal was clearly defined: All editorial and advertorial products of the group should be made available through all publication channels – print or digital – depending on the requirements of the individual customer. For WELT, the new strategy brought changes at almost all levels in the organization. The most important was the introduction of an integrated newsroom.

Torsten Stolz, Senior Duty Editor Technology at WELT, will share experiences of Axel Springer’s journey to become a digital publishing house in a presentation on September 14, 2017, at WAN-IFRA India. He will also share insights on how the WELTN24 newsroom transformed to a digital-first approach. By implementing the CCI NewsGate system, workflows were redefined - enabling digital growth and reduced print-production cost.
