CCI NewsGate
XML Database - maximize content use across all media

At the heart of CCI NewsGate is a powerful XML database. Based on technology from Oracle, the XML Database provides a central repository for secure storage and management of vast amounts of content and related material and files.
The media-neutral XML format can be edited in various applications or transformed for use in connected publishing systems. Content can be imported and exported to and from various external sources and systems, making CCI NewsGate the central repository and “workbench” for managing, editing and preparing content and for feeding it to various publishing channels.
A single text, photo, graphic, sound or video clip can be reused directly in different publications, or it can be edited to uniquely target each publication and media, such as online, print or TV news scripts.
Powerful cross-media planning, assignment and budgeting functionality makes it easy to coordinate the creation and editing of content across different departments and newsrooms and to plan the use of content in print, online, TV and other publications.
The CCI NewsGate database makes extensive use of metadata (“data about the data”) such as summaries, categories, keywords, locations, etc. in order to plan, describe, track and manage content from various sources and to “promote” or encourage reuse of content in sister newsrooms and publications.
But CCI NewsGate goes beyond just “storage” and “editing” XML files. It allows any kind of background file, source material, contacts, notes and other related information to be stored along with stories, providing a connection between content and the “knowledge” behind it. Such background files can be completely private and secure or they can be shared with other newsroom staff.
The ability to store, manage and reuse not just publishable stories, but also background information, offers new opportunities for adding value, for building upon quality, for commercial packaging and for finding new ways to use existing information.
